Calabro is a Brisbane orthopaedic surgeon with subspecialty fellowship training
in hip, knee and trauma surgery.
Dr Calabro consults at both Greenslopes and Brisbane Private Hospitals and offers surgery at these locations along with St Vincent’s Northside Hospital, Chermside. He has public appointments at two of Brisbane’s high volume joint replacement centres; The Prince Charles and QEII Jubilee hospitals, and is the Director of Orthopaedic Training at the latter.
His special interest areas include hip and knee replacement, including complex and revision procedures, knee ligament reconstruction, meniscal repair and traumatic or sporting injuries to the lower limb.
Dr Calabro was educated in Brisbane and practised for several years as a physiotherapist before studying medicine. He graduated from the University of Queensland medical school with first class honours in 2008 and completed his orthopaedic specialty training in Sydney.
He has subsequently undertaken fellowships in complex hip and knee replacement at the prestigious Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh and Brisbane’s Prince Charles Hospital, along with a subspecialty trauma fellowship in Bristol, UK.
Dr Calabro was awarded a Masters degree from the Qld University of Technology in 2013 for his research work at the internationally renowned AO institute in Davos, Switzerland. He maintains a keen interest in research and technology, has authored numerous scientific publications and conference presentations and his patients will frequently be offered the opportunity to participate in scientific research as part of their care.
