Dr Lorenzo Calabro

Dr Calabro is a specialist lower limb and trauma surgeon with a focus on hip and knee surgery, including complex and revision joint replacement procedures, knee ligament reconstruction, meniscal repair and traumatic or sporting injuries to the lower limb.
After completing his medical training with first class honours in 2008 at the University of Queensland, Dr Calabro travelled to Switzerland and was awarded a Masters degree from the Qld University of Technology in 2013 for his research work on biomedical models of fracture fixation at the internationally renowned AO institute in Davos. Dr Calabro then completed his orthopaedic specialty training in Sydney and received Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of Surgeons in 2017. Dr Calabro gained subspecialty training in complex hip and knee replacement at both Brisbane’s Prince Charles Hospital and at the prestigious Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh. Dr Calabro completed further subspecialty training in orthopaedic trauma at Southmead Hospital in Bristol, UK. Prior to Dr Calabro's medical career he completed an undergraduate degree in Physiotherapy, also at the University of Queensland, and practised for several years as a physiotherapist both in Australia and the UK.
Dr Calabro consults and offers surgery at both Greenslopes and Brisbane Private Hospitals. He has public appointments at two of Brisbane’s high volume joint replacement centres; The Prince Charles and QEII Jubilee hospitals, and is the Director of Orthopaedic Training at the latter.

Dr Calabro maintains a keen interest in research and technology and is one of limited orthopaedic surgeons who offers robotic-assisted, computer-navigated arthroplasty procedures. He has authored numerous research articles which have been published in peer reviewed journals, conference presentations and textbooks. His patients are frequently offered the opportunity to participate in current research as part of their care. Dr Calabro’s practice is modern, evidence based and prioritises his patient’s specific goals and outcomes. He enjoys working collaboratively with his patients and other professionals to offer individually tailored advice, management and ongoing care.
